Young Entrepreneur Series – Free The Children

December 6, 2011

Craig Kielburger of Toronto, Canada was 12 years old when Free the Children was invented. It happened after reading an article about a 12 year-old Pakistani boy who was murdered for speaking out against child labor in his country. A 12 year-old boy lost his life defending the rights of children.“What Craig learned from this story was that the bravest voice can live in the smallest body.” – www.freethechildren.com

Craig decided to start an organization where kids could help increase awareness of child labor and child poverty around the world, and take action to combat these problems. Together with a small group of his middle school classmates, Craig founded Free the Children. Since then, Free the Children has grown to become the worlds largest network of children helping children through education. Craig’s vision had grown to include more than one million youth and has innovative education and development programs in 45 countries.
