Young Entrepreneur Series – Teenage Yard Workers

November 29, 2011

At the age of 12, Dain McKeon created the business, Teenage Yard Workers. This young venture earned him a spot as a finalist in the Junior Achievement’s National Teen Entrepreneur Awards.

While most kids do yard work for spare cash, 13 year-old, Dain McKeon has loftier goals in mind: He’s saving up to go to medical school to become a pediatrician. He stared Teenage Yard Workers to meet his goal of earning enough money to go to college.

With about 15 regular customers, and up to 10 calls per week, McKeon’s landscaping business keeps him busy year-round (living in Colorado, he specializes in snow removal in the winter months). When the work becomes too much, Dain hires help on a job-by-job basis.

Dain found a profitable way in which to turn the common needs of many (yard work and snow removal) into a business that will help him to reach his personal goals of furthering his education. What can you do to help reach your own goals? Enter the Grow Your Own Business Challenge to find out!
