Ryan Hrelijac was 7 years old when he started Ryan’s Well Foundation. When he was six, Ryan learned that without access to clean water people become ill and sometimes even die. This made him think…how can I help stop this? Can I help people?

He set out to raise $70 towards building a well in Africa and, having reached his goal in four months by working around the house, Ryan kept working and organizing. He eventually turned his question into a business that still exists!

He has now raised over $1,000,000 and his work has helped to change the lives of thousands of people in Africa who might not otherwise have been able to lead healthy, normal lives. Ryan’s Well Foundation has come together to continue this important and inspiring work.

From their site here, we learned that Ryan’s Well has helped build over 680 wells and 820 latrines bringing safe water and improved sanitation to over 723,000 people.

Even as a first grader, Ryan was committed to helping others. You can do it too. Visit http://www.smckids.com/learnandearn to get started learning how to start a business. Enter the Grow Your Own Business Challenge and you could really make a difference!

The competition opens on October 20 and you could win up to $5,000 for your brilliant business idea.
