Young Entrepreneur Series – MyYearbook.com

September 22, 2011

Ever heard of myyearbook.com? You probably have – it is one of the biggest social networks in the world. And it all started in the Cook family home, by a couple of kids.

In 2005, 15 year old Catherine and 17 year old Dave Cook had just moved to a new town. They were having trouble making friends and were sitting in her room looking at the school yearbook. It seemed there must be a better way to meet people. They took that concept and turned it into a booming social network with nearly 33 million members!

They didn’t know how to program, so they went to their older brother for seed money and soon they were staying up all night, working with overseas developers.

Cook believes her young age is an asset to her. “When you’re a teenager, it’s virtually risk-free to start a business: You’re still dependent on your parents, so really there are no major risks,” says Cook. “Even if you fail, you’ll still have a really great college admissions essay, so just do it.”

And what a reward it can be…Catherine just sold her company for $100 million dollars.

So what does it take to be an entrepreneur? There are so many lessons from Catherine – a big one is to take the risk. The Secret Millionaires Club with Warren Buffett knows all about entrepreneurial lessons. Join today and you can learn from the best – and maybe you can be worth $100 million dollars before you graduate college!
